Hurrah! We are all very excited to be working together, again in most cases. At the moment we are confined to various front rooms as our search for a rehearsal space continues, but in the true style of Indulgence the wine and tea is flowing freely so all is well for the time being. (Though there has been a significant lack of cake…)
Kev Troughton, our new golden boy and saviour, will be directing this production and we are all quite excited as it is a very new venture for Indulgence to be doing something written within living memory and tackling quite a few issues along the way. The play is an exploration of gender politics and sexuality spanning two significantly different eras in British history – Victorian colonial Africa and late 70´s London. The same family are shown in both Acts, but the characters have only aged twenty five years from one period to the other. It sounds heavy, but has some cracking comedy moments in as well as things to ponder. After three readthroughs (a little excessive even by our standards) we are all happy with our parts, and as soon as we find a space to get up and move in things will be coming together nicely.
That´s really all there is to say for this entry. From such small beginnings and all that. And believe me, if you´ve ever tried to fit seven people, various bottles of wine, bags, mobile and cups of tea into the front room of a terraced house, you will understand that is not just a literary illusion.
