Press Release - 23 October 2007

'Teechers' by John Godber

Have you ever had the smell of disinfectant in your nostrils, the taste of Space Dust on your tongue and the sound of Duran Duran ringing in your ears…? Then this latest offering from Lincoln´s Indulgence Theatre might just be for you.

‘Teechers’, by John Godber, centres around Hobby, Salty and Gail, three bored, disillusioned 16 year olds in a large comprehensive school sometime in the eighties. Their lives are suddenly transformed by the arrival of ‘a brand new, sparkling clean, not even out of the box’ drama teacher. He encourages them to put together a play about life in their school which they perform with enthusiasm and imagination, playing several different pupils and staff members each.

There´s a large eccentric headmistress with a passion for amateur dramatics and an awful dress sense, a dangerous school bully, a child–hating deputy head, a drop dead gorgeous P.E. mistress, a miserable old caretaker with no time for kids and of course the extremely keen young drama teacher who is the inspiration for it all.

All these fabulous characters (some of which you may recognise from your own school days…) are brought to life by the three friends using the simplest bits of costume and set they find lying around the school stage along with bags of energy and silliness.

Said director Jo Hollingworth:

This has been a fantastic show to be involved with and I have to confess very self–indulgent. I was 16 in the Eighties so submerging myself in the music of the time and looking back in disbelief at what I used to wear has been an unashamed joy!

This is a play that will definitely appeal to everyone, even those who have never considered going to the theatre before. It´s witty; fast paced, and fabulously funny, punctuated with some wonderfully nostalgic eighties sounds that will have you bopping away in your seats…

A must for anyone who has ever been to school…
